Description

In this 2-hour activity, you will first wear traditional kendo attire and learn about the history and spirit of kendo. Then, you will practice the basics, including how to shout correctly, footwork, how to handle the bamboo sword, and striking techniques. Finally, you will witness a real match up close with a kendo practitioner of 17 years. After the kendo practice, we have prepared a fun cultural experience to make unforgettable memories in Japan. What You'll Gain Through this class, you will not only practice kendo but also learn the kendo spirit that every practitioner should embody. By understanding the kendo spirit, you will be able to explain the differences between martial arts and sports and why etiquette is crucial in kendo by the end of the session. During the kendo practice, you will learn and execute essential movements vital to kendo. We will carefully teach and practice each basic movement, ensuring you firmly grasp the foundations of kendo. You will undergo genuine training as a kendo practitioner, deepen your understanding of kendo, and become a true kendo practitioner after the session. After the training, you will witness a real match up close with a kendo practitioner of 17 years. Having learned the basics, you will be amazed by their advanced techniques. Watch the skills honed over 17 years and feel the intensity in person. Following the kendo practice, we will engage in a fun cultural experience. You will play enjoyable Japanese games where you can apply the kendo basics you’ve learned, and traditional Japanese card games. After the kendo training, let’s make fun memories in Japan. There will be photo opportunities, and we will provide photos taken during the session as a souvenir, making it a perfect memento of your time in Japan. ※Participants will practice striking on an instructor wearing protective gear; however, for safety reasons, participants will not wear protective gear or engage in Kendo matches. Original Karuta As part of our Japanese cultural experience, we will be playing Karuta, a traditional Japanese card game. We have created an original English version of Karuta featuring themes about Japan for you to enjoy. Through this unique Karuta, you will not only learn about the game itself but also gain insights into Japanese culture. If you enjoy it, you can purchase the set as a souvenir to take home.
